Leeds-supporters receives £20,000 donation
Press-release for UK readers concerning donation to our branch.
The Scandinavian Leeds United International RMC-branch (LUSCOS) last week received an unexpected gift as one of their members donated £20,000 to the supporters club. Now, the 3,700 member strong branch want to show off Norwegian talents as well as invest in United’s highly rated Academy.
“With Leeds United not being a rich club with a ”wealthy uncle”, it is important to keep the running healthy, as well as working professionally with our Academy,” chairman of the branch, Rune Roalsvig, said.
It was earlier this month that the amount was registered to the account, and the kind donator also gave away £10,000 to the branch two years ago.
“That Leeds-supporters with a bit of money is helping out with gifts like this, is of course something we appreciate tremendously,” Roalsvig added.
“ We will, through this contribution, be able to increase our activities and service for our members. In the near future we are working on making a best possible visit to Norway for the management, players and supporters of Leeds when the club play Lyn in Oslo on July 27th. In a more long-term view we want to invest some of the amount on getting Norwegian talents over to Leeds to show what they can do,” said Roalsvig.
The branch last season sponsored the Leeds United Under 15’s team and look to increase the support in the forthcoming year.
”In addition we would like to invest in the Academy itself, which has brought up players such as Alan Smith, Harry Kewell, Jonathon Woodgate and Andy Robinson. The Academy was also the only one to have to players represented in the starting line-up in England’s first match in the ongoing World Cup in South-Africa, with James Milner and Aaron Lennon,” Roalsvig stated.
With the financial transition within the club, last season’s promotion and new regulations on the number of domestically developed players, the Academy’s position will be even more important in the years to come, Svend Anders Karlsen-Moum believes. He is the editor of ‘The Peacock News’, LUSCOS’ Scandinavian magazine.
”The new rules from the Football League demands a bigger share of English players, and with Leeds United experience and facilities at Thorp Arch, they have the potential of being in the front seat of this development,” Karlsen-Moum told leedsunited.no.
”One example is when Aidy White was brought on as left back in the dying minutes of the cup-match we controlled in at Old Trafford back in January. It shows that the club really believes in its own talent development-system,” Karlsen-Moum stated.
Leeds United’s Scandinavian supporters club has more than 3,700 members, most of which from Norway. For pictures, further comments, contact chairman Rune Roalsvig at 0047 930 43 191 or editor for The Peacock News , Svend Anders Karlsen-Moum at 0047 95 99 81 81.
