The 18-year-old made four appearances for the League Two strugglers, two starts and two as a substitute, during his month long stay with the club.
"It's been a good experience for him," said United manager Simon Grayson.
"If something else comes up that gives Charlie an opportunity to get in some more competitive games then we'd definitely have a look at it."
Goalkeeper Paul Rachubka's loan spell at Tranmere has also come to an end, but talks are taking place about a further extension.
Ben Parker, meanwhile, faced a tough baptism of fire on his return to senior action with Carlisle United on Saturday. The Cumbrians went down 4-0 to Hartlepool United in the first game of Ben's loan spell.
