Lees keen to stay with Accrington Stanley
ON-LOAN Leeds United defender Tom Lees is hoping to extend his stay at Accrington Stanley until the end of the season.
Lees joined Stanley in September but his loan deal currently expires in the first week of January.
The 18-year-old has impressed with his consistent performances during his time at Stanley so far and Reds boss John Coleman is likely to be keen to keep him at the Crown Ground for as long as possible.
And that is fine by Lees, who has enjoyed his time with the club and knows he would have his work cut out forcing his way into Leeds’ first team this season with the Elland Road side currently top of League One.
“Obviously I’ve got to try to show the manager here that I’m good enough to be wanted to be kept on loan,” said Lees.
“I just want to play games really so I don’t really want to be going back to Leeds.
“The way they’re going it doesn’t really look like I’m going to get a game. And I’d imagine Leeds will be keen for me to get some games.
“Playing for Leeds in the future is an aim obviously. They’re a big club and anyone would want to play their first team.
“But at the moment I’m just really happy playing the games here.”
Lees joined Stanley as a centre back by trade, but he switched to right back midway through his debut and has been a fixture there ever since.
He said: “I play centre back but a lot of young centre backs come in at right back and I’m not the biggest centre back you’ll ever see.
“And especially in this league it’s a lot more physical than what I’ve been used to.
“I’ve definitely got a lot F***er playing at right back so whenever I do go back to centre back that will benefit me.”

Jury still out on Wolverhampton’s Sam Vokes
I think it’s fair to say that on-loan Wolverhampton Wanderers striker, Sam Vokes hasn’t made the most spectaculor of starts at Elland Road.
The frontman completed his sixth league appearence for the Whites last night, in which time he’s managed just the one goal. Although it’s a short sample size of games to get any accurate read from, his record at Leeds is 1 in 6 which is in balance with Wolves where he’s managed 6 in 36.
There’s been times when the Welshman has shown some quality touches to assist in attacking play, but more often than not, the end product simply isn’t there. Last night, Vokes rushed an opportunity to get his second Leeds United goal and blasted the ball well over the goal.
His performance was rated by the Yorkshire Evening Post as 5 out of 10, but in all honesty, I think that’s being more than generous.
In fairness to Vokes, the entire team weren’t at their best last night. Until Aidy White and Max Gradel were introduced in the second half, it was a pretty frustrating affair. However, the third substitution, which was Mike Grella showed how it should be done. He didn’t get his name on the scoresheet, but with only a short amount of time, he did manage to force a save from the keeper which was something Leeds hadn’t really done all night.
I know Vokes is only young and is still lacking in game time, but scoring tends to be a natural talent and his history shows that it’s one that passed him by. Similarly, Becchio doesn’t score anywhere near the amount Beckford does, but at the same time he scores a lot more than Vokes and is often a big part of the goals the team does score. He looks like a constant threat all night.
I think it’s easy to see why Wolves were happy to loan him out. In his current position, Vokes simply wouldn’t score enough to be considered a Premier League player, nor would he be good enough for the Championship in my honest opinion.
I think Leeds United have much better options in Mike Grella and Tresor Kandol. I can see why Simon was so eager to get a replacement in when Becchio got injured, but a player so young and inexperienced was a mistake. We have players like that ourselves in Davide Somma and Mike Grella who would have benefited much more from the game time and probably contributed more goals.
I fail to see any reason why Grayson would extend the loan in January, especially with Becchio close to a return. I wish Vokes the best of luck and hope he finds his scoring boots at some point, but I just don’t see it happening. The build-up play isn’t bad and his first touch is usually quality, but without the end product, he’s never going to be a top striker.

Synd, men sant.

Leeds may bid for Max Gradel

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson could make a move to sign Leicester City's Max Gradel on a permanent basis.

The 21-year-old Ivory Coast winger is due to return to City from Elland Road on January 2, but has made a big impact during his loan stay with the League One leaders.

Gradel has scored twice in seven appearances, including the only goal of the game when he came off the bench against Leyton Orient on Tuesday night, a winner which maintained Leeds' six-point lead at the top of the table.

Grayson, a former City skipper, told the BBC: "We'll look at Max for a few more weeks.

"Leicester have loaned him out to get some match practice and we'll see where it takes us in January. They might not want to sell him but while we've got him we'll enjoy him being here.

"He's certainly made an impact, and when a player contributes to the games and settles in very well to the football club, then it makes it easy for you sometimes for your decision to try to keep them, but that will be between us and Leicester to try and sort that out.

"We've extended his loan until January but Leicester have got a recall clause at any particular time and we're grateful to them for letting him out to us,"

Potters track Beckford
Stoke City's assistant manager Peter Reid was at Boundary Park this evening to scout Leeds United hotshot Jermaine Beckford.
Jermaine Beckford, who has scored fourteen goals this season for Leeds, has emerged as a surprise January transfer target for Stoke City.
Stoke's assistant manager, Peter Reid, was at Boundary Park on Tuesday evening in the hope of catching a glimpse of Beckford in action against Oldham.
However, the ex-Sunderland boss was left disappointed, as Beckford started on the bench. Playing conditions were dreadful, and with the score at 1-0 to Leeds at half time, Reid decided to call it a day and head back to his home in Bolton.
The match finished 2-0 to the visitors, with Beckford remaining an unused substitute.
It is thought the prolific striker, who turns 26 next week, would demand a fee in the region of ÂŁ3-4 million.

Reid was also present at Oldham's recent match against Huddersfield, where he viewed Town's young goalkeeper Alex Smithies.

Leeds United: Grayson eying January swoops

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson today revealed he already has definite targets in mind for the January transfer window – and is confident that the club's pulling power will allow him to sign them.
The Elland Road boss admitted he would be "surprised" if he failed to make additions to his squad when this season's last opportunity to agree permanent signings and long-term loan deals presents itself next month.

Leeds have been active in the transfer market this season, recruiting six players on loan after a summer in which Grayson secured five new signings, and the club's lead at the top of League One is unlikely to dissuade him from making further changes before the end of January.

The probable make-up of his squad is a little uncertain with five of the six players on loan at Elland Road – the exception being Michael Doyle – due to return to their parent clubs next month, and though Grayson may look to extend certain deals, his strategy will be influenced by which of those loanees depart Elland Road.

But asked whether he had clear targets in mind, Grayson said: "There are one or two players we'd like to sign. I've got one eye on (the transfer window) and I've got to think about which loan players could go back and what could make us better between now and the end of the season.

"I think we've got a good enough squad as it is but bringing one or two in is something we might do. I've had plenty of calls from agents trying to sell their players or get them loaned out.

"I'd be surprised if we don't bring anyone in but if we don't then we'll move on with what we've got."

Every one of Grayson's loan signings this season have come from a club in the Championship or the Premier League, and the attraction of a transfer to Leeds should be enhanced by the commanding position held by the club at the top of League One.

Grayson said: "It's a good position to be in and I don't think we've had a problem attracting players.

"There's never been a situation where I've gone for a player and he's turned us down because he wanted to go somewhere else and found us not a big enough attraction. The likes of Tony Capaldi and Sam Vokes turned down teams from the Championship to come here."

Robinson looks set for exit

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson has hinted that Andy Robinson will be made available for a move out of Elland Road when the transfer window opens next month.
Robinson has been a peripheral member of Grayson's squad this season, appearing in only a handful of first-team fixtures, and United's boss said he would "look at the situation" regarding all of his fringe players in the coming weeks.
Robinson was a high-profile signing when he joined Leeds on a free transfer from Swansea City in the summer of 2008 but, after a steady first year at Elland Road, he has found appearances difficult to come by this term.
The winger has started only one game – a Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie against Darlington – and he has not played any part in Leeds' campaign since November 10, when United played Grimsby Town in the same competition.
Robinson was linked with a move to Tranmere Rovers during the Football League's emergency loan window, and Grayson is likely to consider interest in the 30-year-old when FIFA's winter transfer window opens on January 1.
Grayson said: "We'll address that with some of our players once the window opens.
"Sometimes it's down to the players themselves.
"If they feel they're not getting enough football then we might let them go out on loan or on a permanent deal.
"We'll have a look at the situation and take stock of what's best for the players and for the club." (YEP)

Middlesbrough after Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford

Middlesbrough boss Gordon Strachan will test Leeds' resolve to hold on to Jermaine Beckford during the January transfer window.
Boro have been closely watching Beckford, who has scored 69 goals in the last two and a half seasons – and they can offer him a short-cut to Championship football.
The former Wealdstone hitman, whose contract expires at the end of the season, fell out publicly with Simon Grayson by refusing to shake the Leeds manager's hand on being substituted 15 minutes from the end against Southampton at the weekend.
Beckford, 26, will be disciplined by Leeds, with Grayson saying the matter will be dealt with internally.
Grayson has repeatedly claimed it would take a ridiculous offer to tempt Leeds into parting with Beckford before the summer, with the League One leaders looking to nail promotion.
But the relationship between the pair has been left fragile after the substitution incident. (Mirror)
