City set for £10m Delph swoop MARK HUGHES wants Leeds wonderkid Fabian Delph as his next big-money signing. Manchester City boss Hughes has already spent around £100million on Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz, Kolo Toure and Gareth Barry. He is trying to sign £20m-rated Joleon Lescott from Everton while Delph is also on his radar. Delph, who would cost around £10m, was voted the best young player outside the Premier League last season. His performances have drawn interest from Aston Villa, Tottenham and Everton but Hughes is in pole position. Delph, 19, missed Leeds' 2-1 victory over Burnley yesterday with an injury. And Hughes, speaking after City's 1-1 draw with Barnsley, said: "We have an interest in the situation. "He is a young player who has been brought to our attention. "I'm not sure where we are up to with that because obviously I have been busy with the game."  Leeds risk Beckford free transfer Leeds United manager Simon Grayson says the club will run the risk of losing striker Jermaine Beckford on a free-transfer at the end of the season. Beckford has one-year left on his deal and has been taken off the transfer list after originally being placed on it for failing to agree a new contract. "We will risk him leaving for free next year," Grayson told BBC Radio Leeds. "We are playing the game that he will score us goals to get us promoted and then will sign a new deal with us." The 25-year-old scored 34 goals last season, but did miss a penalty in the League One play-off semi-final second leg against Millwall at Elland Road. "He wants to play in the Championship and we feel if we go up he will sign with us"
Leeds boss Simon Grayson Leeds put the former Carlisle and Scunthorpe loanee up for sale when the two parties failed to agree new contract terms at the end of last season, but took him off the list in mid-July. Grayson explained: "I spoke to the chairman [Ken Bates] and we decided that if he walks out on a free transfer next year we will run the risk of that. "He wants to play in the Championship, like we all do and we feel if we go up he will sign with us, but we'll risk him going on a free if not." In total Beckford has scored 54 goals in 98 appearances for Leeds and Newcastle United were one of the many clubs linked with a summer move for him. BBC |

Grayson's got money to spend
Simon Grayson has been told that he`s got money to spend after the club agreed to sell Fabian Delph for a substantial fee to Aston Villa.
Leeds chairman Ken Bates told Grayson that he had funds available to him to strengthen the squad, Grayson`s response shocked Bates speaking on Yorkshire Radio Bates said, Simon`s response was "I`m not going to let it burn a hole in my pocket, but it`s nice to know it`s there if I need it."
Rumours coming out of France are that Leeds are about to sign Troyes defender Mathieu Baudry who recently enjoyed a trial spell at the club

The Brazil-based forward, 22, was due to arrive in England today and has agreed through his agent to complete a 10-day spell at Thorp Arch with a view to signing for Leeds on loan. United struck gold 12 months ago when they handed a trial to Argentine Luciano Becchio, pictured above, who went on to win a three-year contract and score 19 goals for Leeds last season, and the club's scouting staff hope they have uncovered another gem in Tripodi. He is travelling to Britain from Brazilian club Atletico Miniero, and his CV lists previous spells with Santos and German Bundesliga outfit FC Cologne. Like compatriot Becchio, Tripodi emerged as a youngster with renowned Argentinian club Boca Juniors, the club he left to join Cologne in 2006. The transfer to Germany – his first experience of European football – was facilitated by his possession of an Italian passport. Tripodi made only one appearance for Cologne's senior team and returned to his homeland in 2007. He was signed by Santos the following year and has since completed spells with Vitoria and Miniero. His Italian passport would allow him to move to England freely were Leeds to follow up their interest, sparing him the uncertain process of applying for a work permit, and Tripodi will be assessed by United's coaching staff during the coming week and a half. United's decision to cast their eye over Becchio last year paid off handsomely as the powerful striker provided the perfect foil for Jermaine Beckford, the club's leading scorer. Leeds took Becchio on trial from Spanish lower-league club Merida UD before signing him for an undisclosed fee. The forward finished his first campaign in England as United's second leading scorer, one short of a 20-goal haul. Meanwhile, there’s a growing rumour circulating about Nathan Ellington. The rumour began yesterday when it was claimed that Leeds were considering a move for the striker, which I announced via the sites Twitter page. The rumours has grown further today as I’m hearing whispers that he may be training with the club this morning. There’s been no official confirmation from anyone at Leeds United or any other reputable source so far, so this could be a complete myth, but Nathan hasn’t been having the best of times at Watford scoring just 4 times in 34 appearences so he may well be available.

Gunn admits to Hoolahan fear: Canaries boss hoping no offers will come in for midfielder Norwich City boss Bryan Gunn fears midfielder Wes Hoolahan could leave Carrow Road before the close of the transfer window. Hoolahan enjoyed an impressive debut season with the Canaries after joining from Blackpool and had been tipped to move on following the club's relegation to League One. The Canaries have not received any offers for the 27-year-old and Gunn is not keen to encourage any interest in the Irishman.
